Musketeer
Lilburne's Musketeers are basic foote soldiers, who fight with matchlock or flintlock Muskets which are firing replicas of the actual weapons used in the 1600s. They form "blocks", attacking at about 25 metres, firing volleys, then, using the butt of their musket as a club, they move in towards the enemy and engage them at arm's length. Finally, they use their swords to engage the enemy in hand-to-hand combat.
Obviously, we do not actually use shot in the musket, only gunpowder and wadding. Full and safe training is given to every member who takes up arms on the battlefield and you have to pass a safety test before you are allowed to use a musket or a sword on the battlefield. "Dummy" muskets are used during the training period, in order that the new combatant can gain field experience and confidence prior to the musket test being taken. Although being a musketeer does not require the full body contact that being a pikeman does, it is none the less just as enjoyable and exhilarating!
