Musician
In Lilburne's Regiment the musicians are greatly valued. As with the drummers they are part of the focal point of the regiment when marching. They too take their part in keeping up the morale on marches and on the battlefield. However, for this role you need to be musical and able to play your own authentic instrument as you will have to learn to play the authentic tunes of the C17th period, and no training can be given.
Although the musician's role is usually non-combatant, during battles they are situated with the drums and colours, behind the pike & musket blocks to play authentic music to give encouragement to the Regiment and convey atmosphere. Musicians will be expected to play alongside and in time with the drummers but must be aware that their role is complimentary to the drums and their playing should not interfere with the role of the drummers when they are required to pass orders to the troops.
