Civilian
The Civilians role is never underestimated in Lilburne's Regiment. The civilians are essentially our "PR Team" who come into contact with members of the public. They variously adopt the roles of an authentic character ranging from aristocratic gentry, merchants, farmers, beggars, thieves, whores, gypsies, apothecaries, priests, barber-surgeons etc. They mingle amongst the crowd and in the Living History areas, not only adding to the spectacle, but also by talking to the public, answering their questions about the battle, the Sealed Knot Society and (most importantly, of course!) Lieutenant-Colonel John Lilburne's Regiment of Foote. They also promote interest in each and every aspect of C17th life in England during the period of the English Civil War.
The Civilians really come into their own at our own Regimental events where the Living History area is a greater part of the whole event spectacle and they take a more obvious role. Quite often they will perform cameo scenes with the children and other adults, some of which are educational and informative, some of which are more light- hearted and fun. The assistance of the Civilians at such events is vital since Lilburne's encourage audience participation in some of their Regimental Event activities and the Civilians, together with all the rest of the Lilburne's Team, show their expertise in organising such interaction!
